Microsoft decided to stop producing its foldable devices, including the Surface Duo, in 2023. However, according to other accounts, the corporation tried one last time to make a folding phone called the Surface Duo 3 before giving up on the idea.

According to a recently discovered patent, the next version of the Surface computer would have had a kickstand at the rear and a single continuous display. This revelation comes after a related patent that suggested a Surface comeback was discovered in March. A patent application discovered by PatentlyApple suggests that Microsoft may have decided against moving forward with the Surface Duo 3 project.

According to the patent, the device would have significantly changed from the dual-screen design of the earlier Surface Duo, which the company canceled last year after it failed to find momentum. Instead, it would have had a single continuous display.

The device was made with a kickstand that could be magnetically fastened to the back, enabling users to arrange it on a table vertically or horizontally without needing other cases or accessories.

Additionally, a triple camera arrangement similar to the one seen in Apple's iPhone Pro models was suggested in the patent for the foldable device's back. It was also supposed to include a power button that could be used to unfold the device, doing away with the requirement for manual opening.

According to reports, on June 20, the patent was filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office. Although it was filed under the name "kickstand for opening foldable computer device," the gadget it described had a 180-degree folding hinge-supported "flexible" display. It is thought that this gadget is the Surface Duo, which was subsequently canceled. It is interesting to note that Microsoft reportedly shelved plans for a device comparable to this one a few months ago under the codename Project Neon.

It is important to note that the patent application also makes mention of another gadget with a 360-degree rotating flexible display and support hinges. This makes it possible to place the one continuous display face-to-face.
